ALI Annual Dinner

Just returned from the ALI’s Annual Dinner. Once again, I am reminded what a valuable and koppel-glenunique experience attending this event is, providing members the opportunity to chat with old friends and acquaintances and randomly meet new ones from all walks of the legal profession. The engaging dinner conversation was followed by a very personal and insightful conversation, moderated by President Ramo, with former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell and former Maine Senator Olympia Snowe about the sources of, and potential remedies – both inside and out of Congress – to legislative paralysis. Highlighted were the corrosive effects of gerrymandering of congressional districts and the overwhelming influence of money in politics spurred by the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United.
